According to most visitors it is the most impressive beach in Crete, situated on an island lagoon in southwestern Crete. A beloved shallow beach, with turquoise, clear water, and fine white and pink sand (colored by crushed shells). Moreover, Elafonisi beach has repeatedly been awarded a blue flag for environmental cleanness.  Visitors can easily wade through knee-deep water to the island of Elafonisi, which is protected by the Natura 2000 environmental network and contains only sand dunes and more than 100 rare plants. It is an ideal beach to spend the whole day relaxing, ideal also for families with children who enjoy playing in shallow, clean, and calm waters.
